Parents, please join LSGA and LMS on Tuesday, October 22 at Lindley Middle School for Hispanic Heritage Night. We are looking for student participants to perform and authentic Hispanic dishes to share with everyone. Hispanic Heritage Night.pdf
Science students are finishing up seasons, moon phases and eclipses and preparing to take the Unit 2 post test. Then they are moving on to Unit 3! The first topic for Unit 3 is Earth's atmosphere.
Learning targets include: I can identify the layers of Earth’s atmosphere. I can describe characteristics of each layer. I can graph the layers of atmosphere data. I can analyze data about the layers of the atmosphere to compare and contrast Earth’s atmospheric layers. I can explain the role of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere. I can compare and contrast the composition of the layers of the atmosphere. We are looking forward to seeing you during conference week. Your child should have brought home a conference appointment form for you to indicated your ability to meet and on what day. Please return these conference forms ASAP so teachers can arrange schedules as needed. Thanks so much!
Fall break is behind us and we are moving into the next topic in UNIT 2. MOON PHASES! Hopefully the temperatures will soon reflect the season! Walk outside with your student each night and make observations about the moon and why it appears to change shape. Ask them questions about the relative positions of the Sun, Earth, and moon which causes these phases. Ask them what Waning (getting smaller/leaving) and Waxing (growing) means. :)
Lots to get done between now and Thanksgiving break. Things are moving quickly in science! We have been learning about scientific theories, galaxies, solar system, and objects in our solar system in Unit 1. Now it is time to review for the upcoming unit 1 test. Next week will be spent reviewing and getting prepared for the test which will be administered on Friday, 9/13 . Then we will be moving on to Unit 2 which is all about the relationship between the Earth and Moon. Our first topic will be seasons.
What is our universal address?
The Milky Way is our spiral galaxy and our solar system is located on the Orion Arm. The relative size of Earth to our solar system is like a grain of salt in a football stadium. We will have a quiz next Friday: Milky Way, planets and planetary motion. Science content gets harder from here. Please remind your student that all work is relevant and need to be turned in for grading. Parent Volunteers are needed the week of August 26 at any time during the school day to help prepare folders for Open House. If you can assist, please contact Ms. Mojica, our parent facilitator, at [email protected] or 770.819.2414 ext. 064.The first week of school is typically full of new acquaintances, new routines and procedures, and forming new relationships.
Science content, lab safety and Unit 1 will begin this week. Students will start with the origins of the universe, Heliocentric and Geocentric scientific models of the universe and how our conception of the universe has grown over time. Summer Meet & Greet at Lindley Sixth Grade Academy is Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
It is a drop-in to meet your teachers, counselors and administrators, to obtain your class schedule, locker assignments, obtain PTSA membership cards and bus information. Upon arrival, please report directly to your student’s homeroom teacher. A roster will be available at school and posted throughout the school. The science department is looking forward to meeting each of you1 |
